- 40 years helping unemployed people fight for their unemployment benefits
- Won tens of thousands of unemployment benefit appeal hearings
- Organized hundreds of lobby trips to Harrisburg and Washington DC to confront politicians demanding legislative and policy improvements
- Won free retraining and back unemployment benefits for tens of thousands who lost jobs when steel and many industries closed in the 1980’s
- Played leadership roles in winning Federal extensions of UC benefits
- Stopped mortgage foreclosures in PA and passed a law protecting unemployed people’s homes
- Established the first Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) first called the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Caring Program
- Eliminated 180,000 welfare liens on Pennsylvanians’ homes
Fix the Broken UC System Campaign
- Assisted thousands of unemployed people struggling to get UC and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance since 2020
- Brought hundreds of unemployed people and allies from unions and churches to the streets with media coverage demanding Fix UC
- Organized dozens of lobby meetings to get politicians’ support to push Wolf and now support Governor Shapiro to fix the broken UC system
- Confronted Governor Wolf demanding that he fix the UC system at Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Harrisburg offices
- Pressured UC officials to restore UC benefits to 800,000 unemployed people
- Now working with other advocates supporting Governor Shapiro’s commitment to fix the UC system, real progress but with more to accomplish.
